What Is Composite Ranking?
Composite ranking is a way to compare players in the game using 6 different criteria. Those criteria are:
- Wealth - The current total worth of the player.
- Chips - The total amount of chips the player holds.
- Ideas - The total number of industries the player holds ideas in.
- Artes - The total number of artefacts the player has built.
- Karma - The amount of karma the player has.
- Sigma - The amount of sigma the player has.
And finally - a Composite, the sum of your rank in all these categories, explained in the next section.
How does it work?
- Top score per category is 1000 meaning that an overall perfect top score is now 6000. Scores show 1 decimal place (to accommodate ties in category scores). It is calculated using the formula of
1001 - <rank in category> = <composite score for category>
- If people are tied with the same number of artefacts, for example, the scores that would have been given to each place are averaged and assigned to all tied players at that number of artefacts (6 players tied with the most artes would yield each player 997.5 points for Artes). In the case of tied positions, the ordering of names in the list is by lowest userid first, but this does not affect the category score in any way.
- User profiles show the Composite rank.
- The Leaderboard page will show Top 25 summaries on all boards.
- Composite rankings use the Top 1000 players in each category, and are calculated for every player which generates a score in any of the 6 core categories - meaning there are far more than 1000 players who will have a composite score.
- All rankings pages are fully cached, saving the DB thousands of queries every day. This will update on cron, once per hour. The script takes 50-90 seconds to run, so new rankings are generally available about HH:01 or so.
