Voting Content Example
This article will show you in a series of steps how to vote a blog into a content category.
Content Votes
Content votes are those based on the actual content of the blog. For instance, most Flickr blogs qualify for a 'Photoblogs' vote. In order to make content votes, the blog must:
- Contain at least five posts in the last six months.
- Contain significant content related to the industry you wish to vote.
- Content votes may be "voted-up" only if the parent industries are appropriate for the blog.
Significant Content
Significant contant is a tricky definition. While there is not a specific number of posts that define what is significant or not, it can be best summed up as follows:
If I were browsing the index in search of blogs about <industry name and description>, would I find this blog useful?
[edit]
Example 1
Step 1 I have discovered a blog about Christianity and, having looked at the main blog, I have decided to vote it into the 'Christianity' industry.
Step 2 I locate his blog on blogshares by typing in the name in the search field above my profile. I find his Blogshares entry and look in the main panel for the industries box.
Step 3 - Having found the box, I can see that no industries have been voted in at all.
Step 4 - I then click on the 'vote for which industry..' link.
Step 5 - A pop up opens.
Step 5 - I type 'Christianity' in the box and click find.
Step 6 - A drop down menu appears which contains one option. Sometimes they do contain more than one, but in this case the one I want is showing. Notice that the industry above the one I have chosen is available to me, as well as the one below the one I have chosen.
Step 7 - In this case, however, I will only be voting this blog into the 'Christianity' industry so I make sure that is the industry showing and click the 'vote for' button.
Step 8 - I should now see a line in green telling me that my vote has been registered successfully.
Once I have voted a selection of drop down menus appear to allow me to vote further up or down the content category if I want. Be careful here, because unlike the demographic categories, a blog in one content category may not necessarily fit either the category above or below because of the rule of significant content. In this case, because I am satisfied with Christianity, I close the window.
Step 8 - I am now back on the original B$ entry for the blog. If I refresh the page, I will see my vote has been registered and is now shown in the industries box.
